Message from the Artist~
I love the first weeks of spring weather. Pink trees seem to bloom overnight. They are so beautiful and fleeting... if you don’t stop for a mindful moment along the way, you could miss them completely. What a perfect symbol for the season and life in general!
I started this painting in and around 2005 but it remained unfinished in my studio for several years. Sometimes that happens... you can only bring a painting so far before you just run out of FLOW. You know that it has great potential, but you can feel that the timing is just not right, and the piece will need to sit while. I revisited this piece twice. The first time was about 10 years later after a trip to Washington DC, where I went to see the Cherry Blossom Festival. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, and the blossoms were just not blossoming that year...
So, with lack of inspiration back to the canvas rack went my painting... That is unit the Spring of 2020. Something happened that spring that seemed to spark a creativity in me like never before. The pandemic shutdown was in full swing, businesses and schools were closed, people were staying home, and walking the neighborhood seemed to be the only thing on our daily calendar. Most of my family lived close so even during quarantine were able to meet up for a socially distant walk. Amongst the unprecedent uncertainty, the air seemed to feel a bit cleaner, people seemed a bit kinder and full of gratitude, time seemed to slow down, and humans did what we do best, we adapted. Day after day, night after night as we walked the same path, my Godmother and I would take notice of two blooming pink trees. We were thankful to have this time together, thankful to be healthy and thankful to have noticed natures beauty. These trees quickly became the focal point of our walks. For weeks we photographed them, commented on their beauty, danced in their petal storms and for the first time truly noticed how long... and short the spring season can be. It is beautiful and strange to think that we had both lived our entire lives in this small town yet never fully slowed down enough to take it in until that spring.
This downshift that happened as a result of the pandemic gave me a calmer outlook on live and inspired many of my paintings including the completion of, In Full Bloom.
I hope this painting brings you a peace and gratitude!
Enjoy!
