Message from the Artist~
Like art, the dresses we wear usually have a story to go with them.  Each one begs the question...Why did we buy it, who did we shop with, what stage or phase of life were we were in when we wore it, and of cores... how did it make us feel... When we sort through our closet and unbox an outfit from our past the stories usually come right back to us. The simple touch of fabric can make us feel timeless, one of a kind, overwhelmed, overweight, like a million bucks, fancy, frumpy, in love, ridiculous or... Elegant. 
Several years ago, I began sketching dress portraits. Wedding dresses, prom dresses, party dresses... any dress or outfit really, that commemorated a special occasion in someone's life.  I found it so enjoyable to talk with clients, get the history of their special dress and try to capture all of the feeling that came with it on canvas.  As research I began sketching dress from my closet.  This piece was from an elegant era.
